Supporting People Living With Special Needs and Disabilities ~ Connecting people, Changing lives…

SYCAF 2010

Archery, Mission Impossible, Bridge building, bowling, canoing, mountain biking, high rope climbing, kayaking, search and rescue, camp fire, group entertainment!, a visit to the cinema and swim park all add up to make for a great week . 16 young carers and 7 volunteer youth workers attended the 3rd annual young carers week organised by ASNA through the Bright Futures project. The week gives young carers - siblings of disabled children -a chance to meet other carers in simlar situations as themselves for emotional peer support and social support. The week also provides challenging opportunites for the young people to develop thier self confidence,  team work and to have fun in a safe environment. Emotional support is provided through thier peers and 1 to 1 support from trained volunteer youth workers. This year, the week challenged the young people to think about  choices and to think about the choices they make in life and how these choices impact thier future.

Continued support will take place through out the year with trip in the winter and residential weekend in the spring. For more details about SYCAF week, contact ASNA office.

October 1-3 will be the ASNA Carers weekend for older carers.
