It's Mental Health Awareness week

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England [1].

1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England [2].

Taken from the charity Mind website, these statistics are unfortunately accurate according the excellent research carried out by Mind and other such brilliant organisations.

Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week - bringing together the UK to focus on getting good mental health. Each May, millions of people from every part of society take part. They include people in schools and further education; private, public and charity sectors; families and individuals.

So what does that have to do with me you may ask. Everything! You may know more than one person experiencing mental health challenges, infact you may be experiencing mental health issues now or have done so in the past. I know this was an issue for me as a parent of a young man with severe learning disabilities . Stress, anxiety, fear of the future and isolation all contributed to my mental health challenges.

This week is mental health awareness week - 13-19th May 2024. The month of May has been set aside as Mental Health Awareness Month and many organisations are becoming more aware about the importance of mental health at work . Some have become aware of the challenges brought about by Covid 19 and many other factors affecting our mental health.

ASNA has developed an online Centre for Disability Studies (CDS). On 15 May 2024 at 6pm ASNA will host an interactive webinar through the CDS addressing the challenges of Mental health through the lens of Resilience, Trust and Hope. This webinar will be presented by Professor David Divine and promises to be an inspiring and informative session.
